Day 100: ITS OVER!

Well its not over as such. Its changing. From now, Day 100, I will be posting only weekly. Today was my first day of work (whee!) and as such I realised it will mean yet more changes in life and such. I decided that posting a drawing everyday is a bit tedious and doesn't always generate the best artwork and whatnot. So I figured its time to try something new. A post-a-week. A project a week. Something like that anyway. It'll give me more time to think out each idea rather than chucking any old thing up. See you in a few days!

A boy walking past has noticed a girl seems to be upset and doesn't know whether to stop and talk to her or not. I don't know why, I guess its because I spent a lot of time on buses and wandering around shops today and got to notice different people in their own little worlds. :)

So its another cute dragon for you :) Working up one of the ideas for a christmas card design. I'm not sure about this one, I think it needs work, refining. Might still go with one of the other ideas. Once again the old Photoshop/Painter colour changing issues have reared their ugly desaturating/oversaturating heads. Any road, I'm off to watch the end of Big now. Gotta love a bit of memory lane. :)

Hiya, sorry for the mash-up pic. The doctore gave me some antibiotics and its having some nasty side effects. I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll be able to pop back to a picture or two on here and work them up- the monster especially. I'm back to cuddling the blanket and thinking calm-stomach thoughts. :)

This is a dwarf. Wait no its a viking. No its a dwarf! Ahhh whats the difference, I mean really, when you get down to it. :P Yes so this is Dawkin the Dwaking. I wanted a desktop for my second screen (I'm not fancy or posh I just have a fancy adapter hehe) and so I thought of a dwarfviking, as you do. I'm pretty happy with it, though it wasn't quite the style I was first aiming for I think I like this more. :)

Jamie and me bought a more games for our new xbox today, Fable and Assassins Creed. I'm a happy bunny, I've wanted to play them for a very long time! He also got something about zombies or something like that, Dead Space, I don't know, don't imagine I'll ever play it so I don't care what it is haha. Night night *tumbles into bed*

Well I've always liked country houses and so today this drawing flowed quite naturally. I remember, from a Travis song, that flowers in the window has a certain meaning. Not so here, I just wanted to draw some flowers in a watering can. :)

Day 86: Red Balloon

Okay so its not exactly original and I'm pretty sure I've done red balloon / Nena references before but, ya know, well, I like it. So sue me! Today I finally got my job references sorted (much to the happiness of the job lady who thought she was gonna do all the hunting herself, ha, doesn't know me then! So many phone calls!) so I guess I'm feeling a lot happier, and a lot less guilty when I play games haha. Hope you like this, I doodled out the sky and thought 'well that looks lovely and real and sky-like but it needs a subject' so in popped the balloon. I suppose you could also say its a Pixar reference and I wouldn't begrudge you that!

Dancing Desert Dame. Or dames. I couldn't help but try a few different flavours. I'm always glad when I draw a woman that actually looks like a woman so I'm pretty pleased with this. Its probably something to do with not actually trying to draw a woman- just curving shapes- or Flash. It could well be Flash. That programs just plain great to draw with!

So back to the children's illustration project a bit here. This is another part of the Egyptian kids book I'm developing with my other half. Its where the lead character meets this talking snake God. Trying to figure out the costume that will work- apparently most egyptian children didn't wear clothes- and still be accurate. :)

Yay! Early post! Whoo! Now I have the whole evening to... Um. Job search? A guy came over today to talk to me about a home learning college thing which would teach me about web design. It sounds good and interesting. He actually saw this drawing and now wants me to do some illustrations for a kids book about martial arts :D hehe, hope something comes of it. I'm really glad I came back to this picture to shade it, I think its better for it. :)

So I did have a good day today. I had a nice interview. Although after that I made the mistake of popping by the place I had my Saturday interview and got given a lovely piece of schpiel to the effect of 'yeah we hired some teenagers cause they are cheaper'. Well not exactly but all the same... Hope you like it anyway, I only decided to draw it properly because I liked the pose ideas.

Sorry for todays effort. Ha, not a good start to it. I've been trevelling and them some today. Me, Jamei and my friend Kate also got drowned by the rain as we were heading for the train station. That rain was INTENSE! Then we had to spend over an hour on a train soaking wet and with delays due to 'alarming noises' in the next carriage. Never did find out what it was about, I mean they explained but I didn't understand- I was falling asleep. Any road, this weekend of crazieness is proving quite taxing on me. Never mind, its excellent fun and more than worth it! Heres to tomorrow being better :D

So I find myself once again caught out on the move! After an interview in Swansea this morning I had to run to get home and back to catch the bus to Merthyr in time to go to a Halloween party. On the way to the party I realised I Hadn't posted the drawing for today so I came back early just to make one o. My iPod and post it. Ain't that dedication for ya? Sorry it's not very good, I'm not very good at the app yet.

So I've been watching a bbc show called Its Only A Theory. Don't worry if you've never heard of it I'm not sure how 'big' it is. But its excellent. Scientists are put infront of a team of 2 comedians [who present it] and one guest, they must try to convince the board of some theory of theirs. Its great, very funny and love how excentric the scientists are- their enthusiasm is adorable. Anyways this guy is based off of it. A nice little trip down Illustrator-road to do the lines today. :]

Day 67: Out There

So I don't know whether to say this is inspired by the cosmos or if its a made-up one. Who knows. Its spacey anyways. A nice experiment with colour. I found a photograph of some coral in an aquarium and used its colours as a base to work off to get to this- I also referenced a few of my favourite Hubble photos to get lighting and stars and such.

A nice little chav to brighten your day today. Sketched this on the train back from Cardiff yesterday but I kept it aside to line and colour it. I hear some bloke talking himself up for the whole train to hear and the title "She Wuz Gaggin fer it mun" was one key phrase from his blab. I drew this based off his voice. I don't imagine he was actually wearing a suit or anything haha.

I was on a train to Cardiff first thing in the morning and a man came round with a buffet cart. He startled me so much I ordered coffee. It was cheap coffee but did the trick. I felt much the same effect as this poor dragon.

Its a happy duckie. I went to Bristol today to meet up with my mate Kate (hello Kate, I know you're reading this =P) it was great and I got to draw a lot on the train there and back. I drew this guy on the way back, he's a possible design for a friends birthday card :] I also started character designs for the Egyptian kids book. I'm really excited for it, it looks like fun project :D :D That's all from me now, I'm going to fall asleep whilst the other half watches Stargate for "research" :)

Well its getting nippy out and I've spent most of today with gloves on and a hoodie. Admittedly I've also been indoors but that's not the point, I've still experienced the biting cold. I'm really happy with this picture. The wind looks just how I want it to and so, infact, does the boy- except maybe the mouth but that's not important in the scheme of things. In other news I got, and built (with the fiance's help) a lovely new desk today so I can draw and work properly now! Yay!

I've been aching a lot today, I think the Sinusitis is doing its worst. Anyway this image is basd off those pains and, kinda, how they felt- although there is a lot of creative license going on. I suppose this is a mutant rather than a zombie or monster. Either way it doesn't look pleasant, especially the broken wrist, not to mention the spikes growing out of the leg.

After I finished this guy I noticed he bears more than a passing resemblance to the bad guy in Treasure Planet. No matter, its not a rip or anything. I got there purely by pushing facial anatomy around to create something a bit more unsettling than your standard skull.

I met this strange woman today as I was doing a dry-run to my job interview tomorrow (mainly because I'm relying on buses for the whole thing). She was very very short and a bit strange. Day 52: Dragons, Monsters and Old Ladies

Well I spent something in the way of 3 hours on buses today and a lot more travelling between places so that gave me a lot of time to think and draw. The old lady is one of the first drawings I did today and the far left dragon one of the last. The lady is also drawn from life, the creatures though, are not. Also all of these were drawn on a very bumpy bus which eventually made me quite travel sick [better now]. Anyways hope you lot like it, I did another pile of sketches today but I think these guys came out best. Tara!

I've been working on another level design today but decided to keep it out of todays submission and make something new. Sometimes its nice to use unrealistic colours on a piece and thats what I went with for today. I really love making landscapes like this, they flow so easily for me! There seems to be something nasty lurking at the top of that path though, watch out, haha.

Day 48: In The Cold

I walked today what I thought might be a 40 minute journey. Turned out closer to an hour and 15 minutes. In the cold. With strong winds. And sand. I also had to rescue a bumble bee from my room (which is no easy feat when you're scared of anything you could possibly kill or injure or that makes that nasty buzzing noise). And finally I was witness to a car crash, which incidently was the reason I walked to that place rather than catch the bus. I decision I know regret, or at least my feet do.

I watched Up today in the cinema. It took forever to get to the UK but I'm glad to have finally watched it. I think I'll go back on Wednesday and see it again. :)

Day 47: Take 2

I know this looks a lot like yesterdays image but I think I've opened a can of worms here! Here's the screen that would follow on from the image before. Same as before, its a side-scrolling thing from left to right. Here I've tried to show the way you'd get up to the upper level in screen 1. I've tried to make this one a challenge for jumping and utilising the rock-lifting ability that Lost Winds has. I want to take this whole idea further away from Lost Winds though so you may well see more on this but with a few more features to it.

View this one full size please. I saw a job as a concept artist the other day for the company who made Lost Winds [Link]. Its not a very well known game but I really love its design and individual way of working. They are making a sequel to the original spring-time game where everything is much more icy. So, I thought to myself, the next choice I'd take is to make a lava game! Lava and fire levels in games were, and still are, the hardest parts for me. Many was the time I sent Mario flying into the air. Here I wanted to show a sort of beginning level to the game. Below are some guides to show how I thought the area might work, hope it makes sense:

Excuses I know but I'll make it up to you tomorrow by scanning this in properly and doing an extra nice image. Jamie's birthday was today, it was great. I managed to pull off surprising him with a visit from his best friend, we watched Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, ate Chinese buffet and attended a lovely comedy night put on by a student comedy group. :)

'Allo! Today was my first full day down in Swansea. It was a great day if a bit tricky bus-wise. Still at least I'm not the guy I met who'd been a victim of identity theft and left a month on with no money and no one who wanted to help! I don't often do photo-based pictures (I sort of think its cheating) but today is an exception. I quite like old cars. I can't be doing with the shiny, noisy cars we have nowadays but I like to think I understand how the older cars at least function (though I still couldn't drive one). I took this photo in Bristol when some people were having what appeared to be a hugely important and private wedding. These two blokes were chatting about the car the whole time. To the left you can also see a silly tourist lady, don't catch me taking photos of-- oh wait. Haha, well its not the same if you throw Photoshop at it afterwards right? Tata

As a child my favourite book was the My Naughty Little Sister Storybook which was illustrated by Shirley Hughes. My brothers used to say I was the girl in the book, especially when she played up. This drawing a sort of homage / fan art to the books and more so to Shirley Hughes. I always liked the grumpy little girl with ribbons in her hair.
Looks like she's met a very naughty young boy. I'm pretty sure he's only offering her sweets because some adult made him. Either that or they are filled with aniseed!

I've been thinking about clouds a lot lately. I like clouds, they are wispy and fragile and not quite there and sometimes they can look so solid you could sit on them, or even bounce. Anyways, here is a sky. I would have referenced it but its night time and photographs never quite capture things- besides I quite like making things up idly while I quietly fall asleep!

Popped back down to where I did my work experience today so help finish some things off and pick up copies of the work we did. Then I got back to Merthyr and started running around various places trying to get some help with moving to Swansea and getting a job. Its been a really productive day. Well, not 'alive' per say. People live in them, those funel-type things with smoke coming out are evidence of the people. Once again a fair bit of the redness has been lost in translation which is a bit but I still quite like the effect. :) Its been quite some time since I've done a landscape like this so it feels very refreshing.

Well work experienced finished today, it was a great 4 days and we have a nice little storyboard/animatic to show for it. I had really bad dreams last night as a result of caffeine withdrawal. My dream in fact was thus: Danny Wallace was collecting evil alien robots to destroy and mutilate the human race. Whenever I woke up I was in a panic about this thinking "Oh no! Danny you're going to kill everyone!"
I was listening to the audiobook of his book Join Me as I went to sleep and I suspect this influenced the dream somewhat. I swear that at one point I woke up and the tape was playing with Danny talking about harvesting human soles to further his horde of alien robot killers. Danny, if you ever read this, I'm sorry, I know it makes no sense.
Aaaannyy way, from all the came the above sketchbook page. The guys in the right are the robot killers who start off as plain old lovely robots and go mental. Towards the left I started experimenting more and got all side-tracked with dislocating jaws.

I hesitate to write anything for fear of bad sentences or spelling. Either way, I had a great day at work experience, we got some rough storyboards done and even turned it into an animatic. I want to say more but I'm gonna take an early night, I think I'll need it. Day 21: Paper Monster!!!

I spent a long time with the paper shredder when I came up with this one. About 2 hours actually. I had a lot of paper to shred. In other news I went on a 3 hour climb up the river trail and up a mountain to get to an old castle. The view was amazing, very sleepy now though! :D

Day 20: Glasses Glasses!

So with day 20 comes a trip to the job centre. This man was there, he's made up of a few different people that were around. In other news I apparently have semisomnia, that is, if you believe the newspapers which for the purposes of this I have decided I do. If nothing it provides an explanation for my extreme tiredness that led to me starting this adventure!

Day 19: Scruffy duck!

So a few days ago [link] I drew a line up of animals and said I would colour them in Flash as soon as I could and now I have done just that! Here are the silly team. They are off to school, Harry the hippo's a prefect and Gertrude giraffe's a snob, Leon the lion is the kid who hides his uniform in a huge hoodie. The scruffy duck seems very proud of himself the silly thing. Scruff duck has no name, he doesn't need it, he's more awesome than that. Anyway, this a very early post from me, I'm off to visit a friend in the city, whoop whoop!

Day 18: Robots and Flowers

A robot man is intrigued by nature. He watches as the daffodil starts to fall apart in his gentle robot grasp. Its inspired by a song that has nothing whatsoever to do with robots or daffodils- or flowers of any sort! Its a song by The Killers called Spaceman. I have the whole music video mapped out in my head, I really want to storyboard it out but its a huge project for another day. All the same I've been quietly working on character designs for awhile.

Day 16: A geeky confrontation

The strange idea for this comes from my friend Dan Mitchell who when asked said, "I want you to draw a Greek hero who talks to a red demon and a green spirit. and has a mobile phone in his pants." Which seemed pretty cool if not specific. So here's my attempt! The geek is trying to get something back from them, probably his Aquaman style gloves, but I think they are too freaked out by him and his phone. I know it may not be the best drawing you've seen today but I had a lot of fun drawing it, there's something timelessly funny to me about drawing geeks. Probably comes from being sibling to two and engaged to another, haha!

Day 12: Grumpy Gills is out to play!

Grumpy Gills is a counter-part of Jamie's personality. It usually appears when he objects to being tickled. Grumpy Gills pouts a lot and generally holds a look of cute hurt. He has nothing whatsoever to do with gills though, that's just a name. Silly you thinking that names relate to things.

Day 11: Dragon Face

So to make up for the cute dragons I thought I'd draw a guy who was maybe a bit tougher. Incidentally I managed to get the pictures I was trying to get printer done! They are now in the framers and will hopefully be finished soon. :D Awesome sauce :)

Day 10: Stars

So I went into town today at about half 10 with a nice list of things to do, one of which was 'get art prints done at local printers'. That little item turned out to take rule over my day and I eventually left the printers at 4 promising to go back tomorrow and try again. Something went wrong with the file, I'm not sure what but despite the computer saying it was the right size (10x10 inches) when it got to the printer computer it said something more lie 47.47 and wouldn't let it be scaled down. Add to that a corrupted file earlier on in the day and altogether I visited the printer 6 times trying to fix the problem.
A little light of hope saved the day though in the form of a little commission for a tattoo with stars. That's what today's picture is about, its one of the pages I've done to try to figure out some designs. Stay tuned for the next chapter in the adventure called "Getting The Art Printed"

Day 9: Like a wolf in sheep's wool only not at all

So, bonus! Two pictures. I suppose you could call it Fan Art (shudder) but I don't know. That label has a stigma. Anyway I've been reading The Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett. It deals with the last recruits in a pointless war and all the troops are girls disguising themselves as boys and putting socks in their trousers to try and fake it. Hehe Anyway, it intruiges me a lot- the story, not the socks- so I thought I'd try and capture it a bit. The top picture is of one of the characters who is a man and has only read about the 'art' of fighting and so on and so is pretty useless at the whole thing. Its good stuff. I had hoped to colour them or shade them or put them in a scene, but things have been getting on top of me like you wouldn't believe! Off to try and wade through the pile of ToDo's now. Wish me luck! *dives into the pile*

Day 8: Heres comes the jelly.. squidy... thing!

This guys a sort of jellyfish, squid type thing. I think he's a bit confused with the whole thing as well. I really wanted to put more time into today drawing but the day got away with me! I'll try to do something more complicated tomorrow, I have plans! Great plans! Tata for now.

Day 7: Its a bit 'otter!

Well actually it felt a bit colder today! Me, the fiancé and the parents went to Cosmeston to the medieval village and after that we went around the lake. It was lovely even if I was intensely tired after getting 4/5 hours sleep. There were a lot of birds there (plenty of ducks and some cute young swans) but no otters. There were pictures all over the place saying there were otters but I saw none. So I drew this fella. I plan on making him out of felt for a friend of mine at some point but that's not for awhiiiilllleeee. He looks surprised, probably because someone found him at long last!

Day 5: Cute Baby Dragons!

I had the unavoidable urge to draw cute baby dragons today. It happens sometimes.
These guys only have very simple colouring because I had another full day of work and I still can't get a decent colour similarity from painter-photoshop files. I hope you like these guys, I find the cute little optimism brightens my dreary day a bit haha. I hope to draw a malard tomorrow. I like them. I find them funny.

Day 4: Max is happy

I've had so many problems with photoshop and colours-after-saving recently this is the first picture in ages that hasn't changed! And that's because I switched off colour management. His name is Max. He's happy to see you. He's also shaded in a different way, and infact drawn differently too. Normally I'd sketch a drawing like this in my sketchbook first but I made an effort to try it in Photoshop instead. Also I didn't use any opacity on the shading, I picked the tones which I don't do very often (I usually let multiply and screen come up with the tones, bad I know but what ya gonna do, haha!)
I must start publicizing this blog but my days have been choc-a-block so far! I spent all day today colouring in scenes of war for my good friend Jordans comic. Anyway now I'm going to take a break by watching the I.T. Crowd for awhile.

Day 2: Emerging from the drawing

This dragin seems to be emerging from that guys hand. Or maybe its like a sci-fi viewing device? Or it could be a magic creating and image or viewing the dragon. Hmm magic CCTV. Scary stuff.
Anyway heres day two. Its not much, I think I've burnt out my creative energy by working non stop today (okay I stopped to get lunch and tea... Oh and to help my mam get the shopping in and to take breaks to stretch like the doctors say we should but you get my drift!) but all the same I'm quite happy with this piece. Theres something lovely about pencils, although Corel Painter doesn't seem to have nailed digital ones.

Drawing a Day!

Well I've decided to do a drawing every day. Its something I did a year or two ago and it was great. I did it for a 100 days that time but who knows how long it will go on for this time! Each day I'll post something along with some babble about my life and how job hunting and house hunting is going (and whatever comes after the hunts are over). For now I'll post this one image, its some icey, kinda makes me think of the Sims logo.

The blog and everything is intensly bare right now but I'll sort that out soon. It'll be awesome.
